As an experiment, we have linked in the contents of the USGS GNIS (United States) and NGA GNS (international) geographic databases into the Omega ontology. The location_type information from these sources has been used to augment WordNet's more limited subontology of geographic feature types, and each database instance has been placed under the appropriate resultings concept(s). Sub-jurisdiction (country/province, state/county) relationships have been encoded with Omega's DIRECT-PART-OF/DIRECT-HAS-PARTS relations. Various spellings for a given named point of interest have treated as alternative lexical items for the concept.
